For this Weekly Fourcast, we caught up with one of our newest Jaybird ambassadors, Becca Skinner. Becca is a Bozeman, Montana-based adventure photographer and writer whose work often focuses on conservation issues. Becca was a competitive rock climber when she was young, but now considers herself an athletic generalist—climbing, hiking, and managing her and her husband’s permaculture farm keep her plenty active when she’s not behind the lens. Recently, she’s also started to fall in love with running. Shortly after they were married, Becca and her husband ran a half-marathon at 9,000 feet in Montana.
“We had been so wrapped up in the planning of the wedding that the training fell to the bottom of the list and my anxiety was out of control about being able to even finish the race,” she says. “I knew I could hike that distance, but I had never run that far.”
With her husband’s reminder that they weren’t trying to win anything, when race day came, Becca made it to the finish line in what she calls one of the best experiences of her life.
“Instead of listening to my anxiety that I was going to fail, I tried to thank my feet, my legs, and my lungs every few minutes. It was an awesome way to celebrate movement, and I was hooked on long distance running from there on out!”
Becca’s Recommended Podcasts:
RadioLab, Alpha Gal
This episode is about a gal who develops a sudden meat allergy from getting bit by a tick! Fascinating and such a well-produced episode.
Every episode, the host Alie Ward interviews a different “ologist.” It’s funny, it talks about stories and science and history and is all-around entertaining.
Mountain and Prairie
I can’t choose just one! If you love the West, conservation and expanding your knowledge on some of the biggest issues facing us today, this is your podcast. Ed is a great host and asks great, thought-provoking questions.
Rough Translation, The Refugee’s Dating Couch
The premise of this NPR podcast is to focus on conversations we have here in the US, but show somewhere else in the world where they are talking about similar things.
The Weekly Fourcast is a series of curated podcast recommendations from our athletes, ambassadors and employees. Every week, we’ll drop a new list of four shows and episodes that you need to hear, direct from the Jaybird crew—the perfect audio fuel for the week ahead.
